Switching from Loop Habit Tracker
Loop keeps everything in a local database on one Android phone. Here is how to take that history with you rather than starting the grid again.
What comes across
- Every habit in the export, by name, in the order Loop lists them
- Every check-in you have ever made, on the day you made it
- The counts on numeric habits, not just whether the day was ticked
- Days you marked as skipped, which stay skips in Ritua rather than becoming misses
What changes
Your streak number may be different here, and that is the point.Ritua counts a streak against the schedule you set rather than against the calendar, so a ritual you do three times a week keeps its streak through the days off instead of breaking every Tuesday. A skipped day bridges rather than resets. The number you land on is usually the more accurate one. You cansee exactly how it is countedbefore you move anything.
These do not come across:
- Frequency and reminders. Loop keeps these in a separate file from the one Ritua reads, so every habit arrives as a daily ritual. Change the ones that are not daily after the import and the streak recalculates from your real history.
- Habit colours and notes, which Loop does not put in the Checkmarks export.
Getting the file out of Loop Habit Tracker
Open Loop and go to Settings
Tap the menu in Loop Habit Tracker and open the settings screen.
Scroll to the Database section
Settings is a long screen. The export options are near the bottom, under the heading Database.
Tap "Export as CSV"
Loop builds a zip archive and offers to share it. Save it somewhere you can reach from your phone: your downloads folder, Drive, or Dropbox all work.
Move the file to the phone you will use Ritua on
If you are moving from Android to iPhone, share the zip to yourself by email or a cloud drive so you can open it on the new phone.
What you should have: A zip archive named something like Loop Habits CSV.zip. Inside it there is a file called Checkmarks.csv, whose first column is Date and whose remaining columns are your habit names. That is the file Ritua reads. You can hand Ritua the Checkmarks.csv directly, and the name does not matter: it identifies the format by reading the contents.
Getting it into Ritua
Install Ritua and open it
You do not need an account, and there is nothing to sign up for. Do this on whichever phone you want your history to live on.
On the welcome screens, tap "Been here before? Restore from backup"
It is the underlined line beneath the main button, and it is there on every intro slide. Do it now rather than later: restoring during setup is free, while the same action from Settings afterwards is part of Premium.
Pick your file, then choose Merge or Replace all
Ritua works out the format by reading the file itself, so a renamed or re-shared file still imports. Before it writes anything it shows you what it found, counted out as rituals, logs and settings, along with anything it had to leave out. Nothing changes until you choose.
The import reads the file on your phone. Nothing is uploaded, and Ritua has no account system and no server to upload it to. If the file is not one Ritua recognises, it says so and writes nothing.
However many rituals you bring, they all come in. Ritua's free tier tracks five active rituals, but that limit is on creating new ones, not on recovering what you already had. An import of twelve habits restores twelve.
What is different here
- Streaks follow the schedule, not the calendar
- Loop counts against the calendar. In Ritua a ritual you do three times a week keeps its streak through the four days off, and a day you deliberately skip bridges the streak instead of ending it. That is why an imported number can differ from the one Loop showed you.
- It runs on iPhone as well as Android
- Loop is Android only and has been since it launched. Ritua is on both stores, so the export above is also the answer if you have changed phones and assumed the history was lost.
- A score that dips instead of resetting
- Alongside the streak, Ritua keeps a Ritual Score that falls a few points when you miss and recovers within days when you show up again. Months of steady history outrank one perfect week, so a single bad Tuesday does not wipe the picture.
And one thing Ritua does not do: Ritua is not open source, and it is not unlimited for free. Your imported history is exempt from the free tier's five-ritual limit, but adding a sixth ritual later is a paid upgrade. If free and open source is the reason you chose Loop, that is a real difference and worth knowing before you spend five minutes on the export.

Questions
Will my streaks look the same after importing?
Often they will be longer. Ritua counts a streak against the schedule you set rather than every calendar day, and it treats a skipped day as a bridge rather than a break. A habit you always did three times a week will read as an unbroken run here where Loop showed it breaking every week. The underlying days are identical; only the counting rule changed.
Do I need the full backup file instead of the CSV?
No. Ritua reads the CSV export. Loop's "Export full backup" produces a .db database file, which is the right choice for restoring into Loop itself but is not what Ritua imports.
What happens to habits I archived in Loop?
If a habit still has a column in Checkmarks.csv, its history comes across. Loop's CSV export does not mark which habits were archived, so everything arrives active. Archive the ones you no longer want after the import.
Is my data uploaded anywhere during the import?
No. The file is read on your phone, by the app, and Ritua has no account system and no server to upload it to. Your habit history stays on the device the same way Loop kept it in a local database.
What if the import does not recognise my file?
Ritua writes nothing when it cannot read a file, so a failed import cannot damage anything. The usual cause is handing it the per-habit CSV files rather than the aggregate Checkmarks.csv from the same archive. If it still refuses, email support and we will look at the file with you.
