Switching from Streaks

Switching from Streaks

Streaks is Apple only, so leaving usually means leaving the ecosystem too. Its CSV export carries more than most, and Ritua reads all of it.

What comes across

  • Every task in the export, kept separate by its Streaks task ID even when two share a name
  • Every completed entry, on its own date
  • The quantity you recorded, for tasks you tracked by amount rather than by tick
  • The note you attached to a day, which stays on that day in Ritua
  • Task icons, matched to the closest Ritua icon
  • Days you marked as skipped, which stay skips rather than becoming misses

What changes

Your streak number may be different here, and that is the point.Ritua counts a streak against the schedule you set rather than against the calendar, so a ritual you do three times a week keeps its streak through the days off instead of breaking every Tuesday. A skipped day bridges rather than resets. The number you land on is usually the more accurate one. You cansee exactly how it is countedbefore you move anything.

These do not come across:

  • Entries Streaks recorded as missed arrive as ordinary missed days, which is what they were.
  • Health app automation. A task Streaks completed for you from Apple Health keeps its completed days, but the automatic link itself does not transfer, because Ritua does not read Health.

Getting the file out of Streaks

  1. Open Settings in Streaks

Tap the settings control on the main board. On iPhone it sits at the bottom left of the task grid.

  2. Find the data section and choose the CSV export

Streaks exports a comma separated file of your task history. It is a plain export and it changes nothing in the app.

  3. Send the file to yourself

Use the share sheet to save it to Files or iCloud Drive, or mail it to yourself, so you can open it from the phone you are installing Ritua on.

  4. If you are moving to Android, get the file onto the new phone

Email or a cloud drive is the simplest route. The file is small, usually well under a megabyte even after years of use.

What you should have: A single .csv file whose first row includes task_id, title, icon, entry_type and entry_date, with dates written as eight digits such as 20260815. If your file has those columns you have the right one. The file name does not matter: Ritua identifies the format by reading the contents.

Getting it into Ritua

  1. Install Ritua and open it

You do not need an account, and there is nothing to sign up for. Do this on whichever phone you want your history to live on.

  2. On the welcome screens, tap "Been here before? Restore from backup"

It is the underlined line beneath the main button, and it is there on every intro slide. Do it now rather than later: restoring during setup is free, while the same action from Settings afterwards is part of Premium.

  3. Pick your file, then choose Merge or Replace all

Ritua works out the format by reading the file itself, so a renamed or re-shared file still imports. Before it writes anything it shows you what it found, counted out as rituals, logs and settings, along with anything it had to leave out. Nothing changes until you choose.

The import reads the file on your phone. Nothing is uploaded, and Ritua has no account system and no server to upload it to. If the file is not one Ritua recognises, it says so and writes nothing.

However many rituals you bring, they all come in. Ritua's free tier tracks five active rituals, but that limit is on creating new ones, not on recovering what you already had. An import of twelve habits restores twelve.

What is different here

It runs on Android too
Streaks is iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only. If you are switching phones rather than switching apps, the export above is how the history follows you instead of ending at the platform boundary.
No cap on how many rituals you can track
Streaks limits you to a fixed board of tasks by design. Ritua has a free tier of five rituals and no ceiling above that, so a list that has outgrown a fixed grid has somewhere to go.
Streaks that follow the schedule, not the calendar
A ritual you do three times a week keeps its streak through the days off, and a deliberate skip bridges rather than breaks. This is usually why an imported number reads differently from the one on the Streaks board.

And one thing Ritua does not do: Ritua has no Apple Watch app and does not read Apple Health. If completing a run on your wrist, or having a workout tick itself off, is the reason Streaks works for you, Ritua will feel like a step back on exactly that point.

Questions

Does the import work if I am moving from iPhone to Android?

Yes, and that is the common case. The export is a plain text file, so getting it to the new phone by email or a cloud drive is all that is needed. Ritua on Android reads the same file as Ritua on iPhone.

Do my notes come across?

Yes. A note you attached to a completed day stays attached to that day in Ritua. Ritua keeps one free text note per ritual per day, which matches how Streaks records them.

What happens to tasks that Apple Health completed automatically?

The days themselves come across, because Streaks recorded them as completions like any other. The automation does not, because Ritua does not connect to Apple Health. Those rituals become ones you tick yourself.

Will my streak numbers match?

Not always, and usually they read higher. Ritua counts a streak against the schedule you set rather than every calendar day, and a day you marked as skipped bridges the run instead of ending it. The days themselves are unchanged; only the counting rule is different.

Is anything uploaded when I import?

No. The file is read on your phone by the app. Ritua has no account system and no server, which is also why it cannot sync between devices.
