Switching from Everyday

Switching from Everyday

Everyday's export is a single JSON file holding every habit and every day you marked. Ritua reads the schedule as well as the squares.

What comes across

  • Every habit, with its name and description
  • Its colour, matched to the nearest Ritua colour
  • Every day you marked, on its own date
  • Every day you marked as skipped, which stays a skip rather than becoming a miss
  • The weekdays a habit was set to, so a weekday-only habit stays weekday-only instead of flattening to daily
  • A reminder time, if the habit had one
  • Habits you archived, which arrive archived

What changes

Your streak number may be different here, and that is the point.Ritua counts a streak against the schedule you set rather than against the calendar, so a ritual you do three times a week keeps its streak through the days off instead of breaking every Tuesday. A skipped day bridges rather than resets. The number you land on is usually the more accurate one. You cansee exactly how it is countedbefore you move anything.

These do not come across:

  • Streak freezes and any in-app rewards, which describe Everyday’s own scoring rather than your history.

Getting the file out of Everyday

  1. Sign in to Everyday on the web

The export is on the web app rather than in the phone apps, so start from a browser on a computer if you can.

  2. Open your account settings

The data export sits with the account options rather than with the habit list.

  3. Export your data

Everyday writes everything to a single file and downloads it.

  4. Get the file onto your phone

Email it to yourself or drop it in a cloud drive, then open Ritua on the phone and pick it from there.

What you should have: A single .json file, usually named everydayData.json. Opened in a text editor it holds a user section and a list of habits, each with a dates section whose keys are days written as 2026-08-15. The file name does not matter: Ritua identifies the format by reading the contents.

Getting it into Ritua

  1. Install Ritua and open it

You do not need an account, and there is nothing to sign up for. Do this on whichever phone you want your history to live on.

  2. On the welcome screens, tap "Been here before? Restore from backup"

It is the underlined line beneath the main button, and it is there on every intro slide. Do it now rather than later: restoring during setup is free, while the same action from Settings afterwards is part of Premium.

  3. Pick your file, then choose Merge or Replace all

Ritua works out the format by reading the file itself, so a renamed or re-shared file still imports. Before it writes anything it shows you what it found, counted out as rituals, logs and settings, along with anything it had to leave out. Nothing changes until you choose.

The import reads the file on your phone. Nothing is uploaded, and Ritua has no account system and no server to upload it to. If the file is not one Ritua recognises, it says so and writes nothing.

However many rituals you bring, they all come in. Ritua's free tier tracks five active rituals, but that limit is on creating new ones, not on recovering what you already had. An import of twelve habits restores twelve.

What is different here

It works with no account at all
Everyday is built around a signed-in account that syncs to its servers. Ritua has no sign-in and no server. Your history lives on your phone, which is why the import happens on the device rather than through an upload.
Streaks that follow the schedule, not the calendar
Your weekday schedule comes across, so a Monday-to-Friday ritual keeps its streak through the weekend rather than needing a freeze to survive it. A deliberate skip bridges the run instead of ending it.
A score that dips instead of resetting
Ritua keeps a Ritual Score beside the streak. A miss costs a few points and showing up again recovers them within days, so the number reads as a picture of the year rather than a fragile thing you protect.

And one thing Ritua does not do: Ritua has no social layer. Everyday's shared challenges and the pressure of other people seeing your grid are not something Ritua reproduces, and if that accountability is what keeps you going, it is the thing you would lose.

Questions

Do my weekday schedules come across?

Yes, with one caveat worth knowing. A habit set to specific weekdays arrives as a weekly ritual on those days. Everyday's own exporter has a long-standing quirk where the Sunday flag mirrors Saturday, so a Sunday-only habit is worth checking after the import. Everything else lands as set.

What happens to my streak freezes?

They do not come across, and in Ritua they are largely unnecessary. A freeze exists to protect a calendar-day streak from a planned day off; Ritua counts against your schedule instead, and a skipped day bridges the streak on its own.

Can I export from the phone app instead of the web?

The web app is the reliable route. If your version of the phone app offers a data export it produces the same file, and Ritua reads it either way.

Will my streak numbers match?

Not always, and usually they read higher, because the schedule comes across with them. The days themselves are unchanged; what changes is that days off are no longer counted against you.

Is anything uploaded when I import?

No. The file is read on your phone by the app. Ritua has no account system and no server, which is also why it does not sync between devices the way Everyday does.
